WEEK 7 - Creative Writing - Setting & World-Building

Once you’ve got what happens working… the next question is: where does it happen?

Where does your story live?

Story never happens in a vacuum. It always unfolds somewhere specific — in a room, a street, a landscape, a city, a decade, a culture. And that “somewhere” isn’t just a backdrop. It’s not just scenery you paint behind your characters. Setting is an active force. It shapes what’s possible, what’s risky, what feels safe, what feels threatening. It influences how people behave, how they speak, what they notice, what they hide, and what they’re trying to escape.
